Cultural Evidence
Ancient Californian native American tribes, such as Chalone and Mutsun, occupied the Pinnacles region. Arrowheads and other stone artifacts have been found in the bedrock and some caves of Pinnacles, suggesting that there were several different tribes in the area. The estimated population of the Chalone is 3000. Many of the natural resources in the park's geologic region sustained life for many years, until Spanish missionaries and European colonizers took over the land.
